A Musical Decade in Review – 2009

4 hours ago ago from Iain Watt's Blog

So, here we are. The end of the decade, and what's been a rather strenuous ride on my part compiling all these lists! However, it's something I wanted to do, and I'm glad I made it to the end; I hate starting something and not finishing it (see: myself wanting to watch all the AFI Top 100 movies of all time, I got around 25 and just stopped.) With that said, I might leave my top 10 albums of the decade until the new year, the next few days ...

Reflective Candidates: 2009 Best Albums

2 hours ago ago from FoeWeel !!! ???

As another year approaches it's finale, I find it harder to reflect on such a length of time, or actually remember the time during the year that an event actually took place.  A week, or two may work for me, but months are getting tougher to remember without some type of visual aid.  Every year, even though I do enjoy lists, I tell myself that I will not do a year end list, especially this year when I barely could find 10 albums worth ...

3/5 STARS - This is a live album recorded during their promotion of the Tuscany album. An album I do not like. But that aside, I am a fan of Renaissance. That is; their prog rock albums. I rate this band among my favorite five prog rock bands. Period. This is a double album. Disc 1 includes the short, more pop orientated songs. The songs here is not bad at all. Disc 2 is the highlight of this live album and I play that one far more often ...

Well the year is almost over so I thought I'd put up my list of my favorite albums of the year. Just like the Mixcast I did these are just my personal favorites, I don't claim them to be the best in any way, it's just what I was enjoying in 2009. If you listen to my Mixtapes/casts you'll see a lot of familiar faces but I hope you enjoy it anyhow. The list is in alphabetical order (by album name) and there's no numbering. I hate trying to ...

Marshall Crenshaw: Jaggedland

56 minutes ago ago from Sound Round

Two of my favorite musicians released Americana-infused albums this year – Elvis Costello's Secret, Profane & Sugarcane in June, and Mark Knopfler's Get Lucky in September – and both were pleasant, but not quite the best albums they've ever released. Regardless, I've included them on their respective Best of 2009 lists, because even a less-than-stellar Costello or Knopfler album deserves to be on my own personal best-of list. However, I ...
