I will be out of communication for a few days. A well deserved vacation, my first in about twenty years, so I thought I would give you something with meat to chew on. So here it is Article 1, Section 2. (The capitalization in these documants is from the original. I have not altered the text in any way.) The House of Representatives shall be composed of Members chosen every second Year by the People of the several States, and the Electors ...

Do you trust the police?

Over on the Big Brother Watch site yesterday I wrote about plans to introduce tasers to our police force. I explained that it was my view that this was a bad thing - that for many years, the police have kept order in this country by dint of their authority, not superior firepower. In any case, an interesting off-topic discussion began about police... well, to use an emotive phrase from the USA, police brutality. Support for the ...

Homelessness

I was watching the news last night and they reported finding a 70 year old homeless man dead by a train track just covering up with a light blanket. They suspect the freezing temps caused his death. Last year in my town a older homeless man was found dead sleeping under the stairs at the shelter, I guess ...

The story of the N. California gang rape that occurred outside of a homecoming dance is disturbing. If one isn't bothered by this, one should be. What's even more bothersome than the number of people involved are the length of the crime and the number of people who did not get involved. Police posted a $20,000 reward Tuesday for anyone who comes to them with information that helps arrest and convict those involved in what authorities ...

Carl Black is a police officer in Houston, Texas, and has been for 20 years. During that entire time he's worn badge number 666 in honor of his grandfather, who wore the same number years earlier. And, apparently, it scares the crap out of criminals. Though he wasn't even aware of the palindromic digits' connection to the devil (according to the Book of Revelation) when he requested it, the number sometimes has an effect on those who see it. ...
