Wednesday, December 9, 2009 Evening Hymns (SCQ's Year-End Questionnaire Part III) From the second I heard ‘Lanterns’, the first song from his arresting new album Spirit Guides , I knew Evening Hymns had just given 2009 a tremendous shot in the arm. I had the good fortune to catch the man behind the moniker, Jonas Bonnetta, the evening before his record officially dropped, and he dives into these questions with the honesty his album is ...

Notable Omissions: 2009 Edition

Four score and seven years ago, it was 1922. And while the Roaring '20s were the first great height of leisure time in the US, it was hard to discover music independently without going to ballroom dances every night. Some flappers dancing to the new Al Jolson hit, Toot, Toot, Tootsie (Goo' Bye!) Fast forward from the Jazz Age to the Digital Age, and it seems as if everyone is a producer. Indeed, the cast of NPR's All Songs ...

5/5 STARS - After the turmoils of ups and downs Led Zeppelin have finally arrived to their final destination! This album is a personal favorite of mine. Pretty much the whole first part is flawless. Rachel Flotard :: photo by Kristy Cameron If Rachel Flotard were a fruit she wouldn’t be a jicama, especially if her tastebuds have any say in the matter. Flotard wrote the ...

It seemed like the albums never stopped coming in 2009. Quality albums, life affirming albums--albums that reminded me why I decided to make music my life all those years ago, because music makes me: so many things. There is rarely a moment when music is not somewhere playing in my life, whether in the yoga studio teaching, on my numerous daily subway rides, or here, at my home office, typing the day away. And for those brief hours of silence ...

Scott Weiland has some good news for fans who've waited for seven years for new music from the reunited Stone Temple Pilots. "We're almost finished," he tells Spinner of the eagerly awaited Don Was-produced album. "There will probably be 11 songs on the record and we have nine completed already. Then you have to have B-sides for Japan, the UK and the rest of Europe, so we'll probably record 14 songs total." The band apparently has found the ...

Beck Releases Record Club Collaboration With Feist

1 day ago ago from Spinner

Beck continues to blow the dust off late '60s albums in his Record Club, the impromptu pow-wows with his musician friends that reinterpret a vintage album in a day's time. Hansen launched the web-based studio introspective earlier this year with covers of the moody 'The Velvet Underground and Nico' and 'Songs of Leonard Cohen.' More recently Beck's been honoring late Jefferson Airplane and Moby Grape member Skip Spence's 1969 one-off solo ...
