What Kind Of Education Do I Have To Get If I Want To Research Cures For Cancer And Diseases?

And not only cancer..other diseases too. Today I was watching Oprah and they were talking about regenerating organs, and growing them out of the body for someone to have when their's is failing. I thought that was soo cool. I would love to do that kind of stuff, but what would I have to be? Is it a medical doctor? Or can I do that kind of stuff with a Phd in biology? How would I go about getting a job like that? Where would I work? Thanks!
