New EKOS Poll: 9.2-pt Conservative Lead

12 hours ago ago from ThreeHundredEight.com

EKOS has their last poll of the year out. They'll be back in early January. It will be fun to see how, or if, things have changed over the Christmas break. Obviously, they haven't changed much prior to the break. There is virtually no change in the national numbers from the December 8 poll. The Conservatives are up 0.3 points to 35.9%, as are the NDP (now at 17%), while the Liberals are up 0.2 points to 26.7%. All well-within the margin of ...

State Spending vs. Tax Cuts

14 hours ago ago from J-J Rosa\'s Blog

What type of budget deficit is the most efficient? Beyond the investment-consumption debate the state spending increase versus tax cuts debate is no less important. Greg Mankiw here favors tax cuts and argues that they have a more positive impact on activity than government spending. Nate Silver here shows that the Obama policy does include substantial tax cuts. This was after all a policy that an American “liberal” such as John Kennedy ...

The Real Person of the Year: It's You, Again

15 hours ago ago from Pajamas Media

Kudos to the American people for organizing tea parties, attending town halls, and slowing Obama's socialist agenda. In 2006, Time magazine named “ you ” the Person of the Year. I was not that impressed, even though I can technically put “ Time 2006 Person of the Year (shared)” on my resume. It seemed too much like non-competitive soccer. “You’re all person of the year.” Perhaps the better comparison with the 2006 Time magazine ...

Kain draws attention to Colbert's interview with Andy Schlafly of Conservapedia, and says that he (Kain) more and more despairs that there is any such thing as serious conservatism . E.D. later wrote that he'd probably painted with too broad a brush, which is correct. Besides, ...

Wall Street 'Transaction Tax' Would Raise $150 Billion Per Year

34 minutes ago ago from BloggingStocks

As in previous attempts, a possible federal transaction tax faces an uphill battle in Congress, and that's probably just as well. U.S. Rep. Peter DeFazio, D-Oregon, and U.S. Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, have proposed a transaction fee for all financial transactions: one-quarter of one percent (0.025%) for stock transactions; and a two-one hundredths of one percent (0.02%) levy on standardized commodity futures contracts. However, the first ...
