Microsoft and MediaTek Inc.(Taiwan) have announced a partnership to provide the essentials of a multimedia-rich smartphone primarily aimed at emerging markets. MediaTek will also release a similar hardware and software package with Google's Android mobile phone OS in the second half of this year.
